Hello lovely internet people. Tonight I'd like to introduce you to a little project I've been working on for the past couple of weeks. I've started drawing again. I find doodling very therapeutic, good for the soul and the perfect way to switch off from the online world. I'm not great at meditation but when I'm drawing it's the closest I get.
I opened my first ever Etsy shop at the end of 2016. I was selling downloadable art prints, made on Photoshop. My own designs, words, quotes and patterns. But my heart wasn't in it and even though I made a few sales I wasn't inspired to create more art. I thought it would be easy and selling digital items would make having a shop hassle free and the products would basically sell themselves whilst I carried on doing my full time occupation. Of course I planned to go to town on the PR but after a busy Christmas (worst time of year to start a new venture by the way) it all fell a bit flat.
Step forward to February 2017 when I got myself up and running (creatively) again. I didn't want to say goodbye to having an Etsy shop. For the short while I've owned one it's been fun! But I knew my products weren't a right fit for me. I decided I'd have a go at selling my little doodles. If you like black and white bold illustrations you might like these! I'm inspired mainly by tattoo art, traditional folk art and botanical drawings you find in scientific textbooks. My illustrations include lots of flowers, plants and black ink. And a bit of 21st century girl-power feminism of course!
I'd love for my blog readers to support me on this new venture. I'm hoping to blog more about illustration in the future. You can find my Esty shop here, Prints by Gwen and you can follow my illustration Instagram (also brand new) PrintsbyGwen. I'll be posting some behind the scenes photos and extra info on there every day. Your likes and shares would mean the world, and of course if anyone actually wanted to order a print I'd be thrilled!
If anyone would like to know more about opening an Etsy shop and selling online (especially if you're a beginner like myself) I'd be more than happy to put together a post with the things I've learnt along the way. If any of my readers have online shops of their own, let me know in the comments! I'd love to see what you're selling...
