This year I'm working on a little project. I'm challenging myself to take a photograph every single day. It might sound like an odd resolution to make considering it's my job to take photographs, and I can't complain, what a fantastic job it is! But I mainly pick up the camera for other people; their families, their children, pets and parties. I've learnt a lot during these past three years of running the business but my own personal photography has taken a back seat. Luckily I've had my blog to keep my product and lifestyle imagery going a little, but this year I want to increase the amount of images I take 'for me' and hope that a 365 day photo challenge will do the trick. I'm excited to see what I end up with at the end of 2017. Ideally I'd like to capture a photo that sums up the day I've had. But I'm not putting to much pressure on myself to produce stunning images every single day. I'm happy to use a variety of equipment for this project too, my DSLRs and lenses or my iPhone camera. Whatever I have to hand! I'm hoping I'll learn a lot along the way, I really need a creativity boost. Plus I'll have something to show for it this time next year. 365 things to be exact. Here are the first eight images of 2017...

I've decided to post the photos to my Instagram feed. For now, I'm trying to upload them as I go, but if I find that a weekly update where I post a burst of pictures (say on a Sunday) works out better, I might change to that. The most important thing is take a photo each and every day. It sounds so easy but I am nervous I'll be too busy one day and completely forget, or I'll have a rubbish day that I don't want to record and then feel like I've failed.
I also know there will be good images and terrible images. Days where I snap a photo just before midnight and days where I plan in advance the perfect shot and spend time editing it. But it's going to be fun to see what I can produce in 2017 and see if I'm up to the challenge. Along with taking photos professionally for my clients!

I'd be interested to hear from anyone else participating in 'Project 365' or anyone who has completed the project in the past and can give me advice. I'm not following any particular structure although I know apps, blogs and websites do exist to help you along with ideas and get feedback from other photographers. I follow 365_today on Instagram to be inspired by others' work and just in case I get stuck I can turn to their daily word prompt. But for the most part I'm going it alone and shooting what I'm drawn to in the day. It's already making me more aware of the world around me.
