10 Shows to Start Streaming on Netflix Tonight
I'm a box set addict and I enjoy nothing more than staying in with Netflix and chocolate on a Friday night. (24 going on 74). Today I'm rounding up a few of my recent favourite shows to inspire you if you're stuck for something new to get into. It's almost October, the nights are drawing in and it's feeling much cooler in the evenings, so there's nothing more tempting than a cosy night in curled up with your iPad...
1. Stranger Things
If you still haven't seen Stranger Things yet, what are you waiting for!? Everyone is going crazy over this horror/thriller Netflix original and for good reason. It's different from anything else out there at the moment, it's such a breath of fresh air. Believe me when I say I do not enjoy horrors. But I loved this. The scary moments are well signaled (so no stupid jump-scares) and they are few and far between. I can't wait for Season 2 in 2017!
Josh and I have only just started watching Bloodline but it has grabbed us already. It has two seasons under its belt available on Netflix UK so it must be worth a watch! There's something strange going on in the Rayburn family and in every episode new secrets are revealed. It's all leading up to one huge event ...but we haven't got there yet!
3. Better Call Saul
The spin-off show to Breaking Bad, remember Saul Goodman? This begins before Saul ever met Walter and Jesse, when he was still known as Jimmy. We sped through both seasons of this show, we just love Saul.
4. Pretty Little Liars
I know I am very late to the party. For years I've heard people raving about Pretty Little Liars and I assumed it was a show for young teens, a bit like Gossip Girl or The OC. And it is. But it doesn't matter - I'm so into it now! Each season is made up of a massive 20+ episodes and there are 7 seasons in total! It did take a while for me to 'get it' but I persevered (those damn cliff hangers at the end are just too tempting) and approx five episodes in, I had made a commitment. I've just finished Season 2 and have quickly moved on to Season 3, watching two episodes a night if I can. Please don't give anything away. I can't even google the show's title I'm scared I'll find spoilers. After enjoying the grabbing story-lines, I like watching for the clothes and makeup. Although I'm not sure anyone can believe these girls are really 16!
5. Him & Her
This is a sitcom I bumped into when flicking through the channels one night, and then I was hooked. It's about a lazy 20-something couple from London who's messy flat is the backdrop to almost every scene as we witness their realistic but weird and wonderful relationship. Seasons 1-4 are now available on Netflix and it's a super easy watch.
6. Chelsea Does...
If you like comedian Chelsea Handler you're going to love this hilarious documentary series. 'Chelsea Does...' is far funnier than 'Chelsea' (both of which are available on Netflix UK) but sadly there are only 4 episodes. Chelsea explores four big topics, marriage, racism, drugs, and the world of silicon valley in hour long specials. Keep your eyes out for her famous friends and guest appearances.
7. Happy Valley
The first season of Happy Valley is available on Netflix UK! If you missed it on your telly screen, catch up with the British drama everyone was talking about back in 2014. Sarah Lancashire is brilliant in this and James Norton is terrifying. Hopefully season two will follow shortly.
8. Jessica Jones
A Marvel superhero series with Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad) and David Tennant (Dr Who). Even if you don't enjoy superhero films/comics you should give this a try. I started watching Jessica Jones with Josh but lost my way with it and he finished the season without me! I'm going to give it another go because I really enjoyed the 3 or 4 episodes I've seen.
I'm not the biggest fan of Ricky Gervais. But I took to this heartwarming comedy-drama. It's centered around a nursing-home and Derek only sees the good in everyone. Some moments are funny, others are a bit try-hard but the best bits are so honest and true and even made me cry.
10. Orange Is The New Black
...of course! I'm a huge OITNB fan and was just as excited as everyone else when Season 4 came out this year. It's a prison drama comedy, which is based around the character Piper Chapman, a 30-something who finds herself serving time for drug smuggling, a crime she committed in her 20s. There's something for everyone, I love shows with many different characters, and each episode follows the story of a different inmate at Litchfield Penitentiary.
