Monochrome Fashion | My Favourites

In my bid to buy less and curate a wardrobe of clothes that I love and wear in rotation, I have been swayed by monochrome styling and keeping a wardrobe of mainly black, white and grey clothes. If I see something I like when I'm shopping my first thought is always, 'does it come in black?'

Monochrome describes paintings, drawings, design, or photographs in one color or values of one color. A monochromatic object or image reflects colors in shades of limited colors or hues.

A few years ago I tried desperately to inject some colour into my wardrobe by acquiring a few items that were bright and bold. It didn't last. Most of those clothes ended up at the charity shop. But I'm no longer ashamed of my love for monochrome fashion! A limited colour palette makes getting dressed in the morning so much easier. Don't get me wrong, I have a few daring colour options in my collection. Hues of brown, cream and even maroon! Wild, I know. But the majority of my favourite pieces are in exciting shades of grey. Let me share my favourite monochrome items with you and explain why I love them so...

Coated Skinny Jeans
I spent what felt like years searching for my ideal pair of coated skinnies. I finally found them at H&M. They fit well, they're comfortable and they are so easy to style. I'll wear coated jeans during the day with a chunky knit jumper or for a night out with a cami and heels. I have to limit how often I wash them, you shouldn't wash jeans after every wear anyway but even more so with coated jeans.

Striped Top
I wear stripes quite a lot, especially in a Breton style. Being one of my most worn items I'll always pick up another striped tee if I see one I like as I know I'll get wear out of it. There's nothing wrong with having a few versions of the same item in your wardrobe!

Leather Jacket
My most worn item has to be my beloved leather jacket. I've had a few over the years in this casual biker style. This one is a faux leather from the brand Pimkie, available on ASOS. It's buttery soft and I throw it on over everything. In the winter I'll wear a leather jacket over layers and a big blanket scarf and in the summer I'll happily pair one with a floaty dress.

Ankle Boots
If you've been following This Fashion is Mine since way back, you might recall this blog post from 2013 about my black ankle boot obsession. And that was just the tip of the iceberg. I live in black ankle boots. I'm branching out with a pair of tan boots (and I'd love a grey pair) I must stop buying them!

Little Black Dress
Of course the LBD is everyone's wardrobe staple. I have a few in my wardrobe from a simple v-neck a line dress to a structured and stretchy midi. Easy to throw on for a night out.

Oversized Print Blanket Scarf
A huge ridiculous scarf is the perfect solution for people who, like me, are always cold. Wear it round your neck as an oversized scarf, wrap it around your shoulders and arms like a cape or just spread the whole thing out and use it as a blanket to hide under. One in a black, grey and white print goes with everything.
