5 Ways to Wear Culottes

I am a culotte convert. It's not easy to get out of my 'skinny leg' comfort zone but after wearing a wide leg culotte jumpsuit for my birthday last year I've been on the look out for the perfect pair of cropped black culottes that I can dress up or down. Ok, they're not the sexiest item of clothing a woman can wear but I truly believe everyone needs a pair in their wardrobe! As you will see in this blog post they are extremely versatile and may just replace your classic black skinny jeans throughout the summer. (There's an in-depth review on this particular pair of culottes at the bottom of this post) Without further ado here are five foolproof ways to style culottes...

LOOK ONE | SPORT LUXE

Nike Free Runs* | Stripe Top - H&M | Leather Jacket - Pimkie

Here's an everyday look for me. Comfortable and easy whilst leaning towards the sports luxe trend. Wear your culottes with trainers and a leather jacket for running around on a busy weekend. Think about how you normally wear your skinny jeans and replace them with culottes. Simple!

LOOK TWO | CITY CHIC

Trench Coat* - New Look | Crop Top - ASOS | Loafers - ASOS

This lightweight trench coat is ideal for transitioning your wardrobe into spring and summer. We don't get to pack the coats away for long in the UK, it's been snowing today in Manchester (in April!) And I love this outfit for a dressed up day out. I'm amazed that culottes can be matched with so many types of footwear. Flats, heels or running shoes, anything seems to go.

LOOK THREE | WORK FROM HOME

Flower Embellished Sweatshirt - DIY

I call this look my 'working from home' outfit. No shoes necessary (maybe slippers) and a comfortable slouchy sweatshirt. But still put together and nothing you'd be ashamed of the post man seeing! This is one of my favourite DIYs, my flower embellished shoulder jumper. I've worn this in the evening too, just add heels, red lipstick and statement jewellery and you can head straight out.

LOOK FOUR | SUMMER SUN

Crop Top - Topshop | Wedges - H&M | Straw Trilby - Primark | Sunglasses* - Ray Ban

If you're jetting off this summer don't forget to pack your culottes! I'm wearing mine with a cropped lace trim top and sandal wedges. I've replaced the scarf belt with a leather tan one. Not an outfit for laying on the beach in but something that's smart-casual for the evening.

LOOK FIVE - A NIGHT OUT

Strapless Top - H&M | Heels - ASOS

Of course, your new culottes can be dressed up and worn for a night out! Very simply, I've paired mine with a strapless top and black and gold heels. I'd perhaps add a statement necklace or a cropped jacket too. I like the balance of not much leg showing but more skin on show on my top half.

These culottes are the Paola Tie Waist Cropped Trousers from boohoo, for £14. Here's a link! They are made from a thick crepe-type fabric, just the right weight for spring/summer without being see through. They also come in 'Olive' and 'Sand'. I got them in my usual size 10 and find them to be a true fit, comfortable and a good cropped length for my 32" legs. I find boohoo to be really unpredictable. I like the company as a whole and I've successfully worked with them in the past but I can't say this order ran smoothly. The parcel was delivered two days late even though I'd paid for next day delivery. And another pair of trousers I'd ordered (size S which boohoo say are size 10 equivalent) were way too small both in the waist and leg length. I'd advise to approach with caution and be prepared to return items when shopping with boohoo but these Paola culottes have come up trumps and I'd certainly recommend them. I won't take them off!

Fun Fact: there are only so many times you can type 'culottes' before the word looses all meaning.
