The 7 Best Blog Post Ideas
Today I have a rather spookily unplanned '7 Blog Post Ideas' post on the 7th day of the 7th month. These are my favourite topics to turn to when stuck for fresh material to write about. The ideas below will work for many blogs, customise them to suit your blogging style. Never again will you struggle for something to blog about!
01. A DAY IN THE LIFE
Spend a day with your camera in your hand. Snap still photos or shoot footage of your day to later share with your readers. This is something I need to do more of, I'll have a really interesting enjoyable day and be too engrossed in it to realise it would have made great content for my blog. Of course I wouldn't ever want 'work life' to take over my personal life and enjoying the moment is so important. But it takes seconds to take a photograph and you don't need to create these type of posts everyday. Show your readers what you get up to, where you go, what you eat and who you spend your time with.
02. WEEKLY OR MONTHLY ROUND-UP
Lots of my favourite blogs write these types of posts. Monthly favourites work for many categories, not just beauty blogs. How about your most worn jewellery pieces in June, or your most listened to album that week? I find it difficult to stick to writing them every week so I'll use this blogging tool when I'm struggling with ideas or if I feel I have a lot to share that month.
03. WRITE A REVIEW
Every so often I love putting together a review post. You can write as much or as little as you like but I find the more in-depth reviews with structured paragraphs the most useful. It can be very relevant to review a new product, something that everyone else is talking about but it's equally entertaining to read a review about a product you've never heard of. I like writing reviews on apps that I download, especially the free ones. Books, magazines, websites, gadgets and electronics, beauty products or food/drink are just some of the topics you could explore with a honest and personal review.
04. RE-WRITE POPULAR POSTS
We can all discover our most popular blog posts via Google Analytics. One of my all time most read posts was a DIY I wrote back in 2011. It was my Galaxy Print Tee tutorial and I've since re-written and updated the post (here) with better photography and clearer instructions. There's no harm in revisiting an old blog post and using it to write a new fresh post. You can use stats to understand what works for your blog and what your readers respond to. Although I wouldn't do this too often otherwise your blog will just be a compilation of the same stuff with slight changes.
05. HOW-TO TUTORIAL
Show your readers how to create something. Use skills or experience that you have and share that. Or give your advice or opinion on how to do something. Step by step photographs are always helpful or you could make a short video.
06. FOCUS ON A UNIQUE HOBBY
I bet you'll have your own unique interests or talents that you never speak about on your blog. Or maybe you think your hobby is too unconventional and won't be interesting to your readers. I enjoy reading blogs written by people who share things about themselves, you learn who they are and what they're about. I like writing about photography because it's such a big part of who I am but I'm also a big graphic design nerd and into crafting bits and pieces.
07. WRITE A LIST POST
Just like this one! List posts are always popular because they are informative, structured and get to the point. People know exactly what they are going to get. For example, you clicked on this post knowing you'd find my 7 best blog post ideas. List posts are actually really easy to write too. Why not break your bloggers-block by writing your own 'best blog post ideas'...
