If you caught this blog post you'll be aware I was aiming to blog almost everyday in April. I went easy on myself and allowed days off as this was my first 'blog everyday' style challenge. In total I had 6 days off throughout the month of April. I posted on 24 days this month, that's 24 new blog posts. If you've missed out - I highly recommend you go back and check out what I've been doing all month!
I thought I'd put together my 5 top tips for blogging everyday. These tips may persuade you to challenge yourself and get over the common fears associated with everyday blogging.
001. Keep Your 'Idea Bank' Topped-Up
The most worrying thought I had when challenging myself to blog everyday was that I'd quickly run out of ideas. What would I blog about this time next week? The best way to get over this fear is to take each day as it comes (or work one day in advance.) Funnily enough the ideas do come. You'll find inspiration from all sorts of strange sources and I found that when I needed to be creative, I was. The fear led to me coming up with all sorts of blog post ideas! It's about training your mind to think differently and even after this short space of time I find myself thinking in a new blog-language. Everything I do is seen through the eyes of a blogger and anything can become a new blog post. Of course I came up with lots of rubbish ideas too which never even made it to draft - but they're all part of mind clutter, you just have to fish out the best thoughts!
002. Wake Up with Targets and Goals
Getting up early even when you don't have to helps to boost your work-flow and also gives you a few more hours in the day to work on your blog. I am not a morning person and an early start for me is 9am - seriously. But even just pushing myself to get out of bed at this time is better than me sleeping in until noon.
I'm not suggesting you wake up and immediately sit down at your desk to work. But just being a conscious person in the world for a little longer each day will aid your creativity. I like to think about what I'm going to do that day and then get it done. It can be something really small, like catch up on emails or take a few photographs for an upcoming post.
003. Don't Forget to Promote Your Posts
With all the energy and effort your putting in to blogging everyday don't forget to promote your work! There's no point slaving over an exciting post and then not being bothered to tweet about it or let your readers know it exists. Of course there's no need to go overboard with social media outbursts - but still keep it in mind that it's just as important as creating good quality content.
004. Carry a Notebook and Pen
If you google search, 'tips for blogging everyday' or 'tips for staying inspired' you will 99.9% of the time find this answer. Carry a notebook with you so wherever or whenever you get an idea, you can write it down. It's a pretty obvious one but I can't complain too much because it works. The number of times I will have a light-bulb moment and not write it down because I'm too busy - I'm convinced I'll remember and then I don't. And it's forgotten. Forever. You can use your phone too, if you're lacking in tools to physically scribble down your ideas you can just pop whatever you're thinking into the notes section on your phone.
Going back to point 001, this supports your Idea-Bank. Sometimes months later I'll be scrolling through old notes on my iPhone and find a fantastic idea that I never actually put into action. But at least it's still there.
005. Structure Your Content
Often I'll have a surge of DIY and craft ideas. I'll shoot and write them all in a matter of days and be really excited. But I don't go and publish them all one after another! I savor them and try to release one DIY project per week. It's the same for beauty posts or outfit posts. Even if you feel desperate to get something, anything, up on your blog it's better to stick to a structure or format and use your posts wisely. You will also have days where blog posts are much shorter than others. This doesn't mean they can't be just as interesting, useful or though provoking. I actually like a mixture of short and long posts to keep a blog engaging.
We are now into May and yes, I'm going to continue to blog everyday. (Or almost.) Most importantly, I don't give myself a hard time if I forget, or I'm too busy or I just don't have anything to say that day. Because I'd rather post quality than just post for the sake of it. But I'm really enjoying focusing my energy and attention to This Fashion is Mine, I hope you guys are enjoying the boost in blog posts too.
