New Beauty Bits

It was my birthday last week so a few beauty indulgences were embarked upon. So here are my latest makeup buys, surrounded by birthday flowers.

Real Techniques Core Collection Brushes
MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in 'Let's Skate'
MAC Lipstick in 'Hue'
MAC Lip Pencil in 'Dervish'
Sleek Contour Kit in 'Light'
Sleek Eyebrow Kit in 'Light'

Goodies from MAC include my all time favourite lipstick (on parr with Angel) is Hue. A creamy pale pink nude which works well with dark eyes. I wanted a lip pencil that would work with it or that could be worn alone if necessary. Something as close to my natural lip colour as possible. I was recommend Dervish by the MUA and it's great for defining my lips where they might normally loose a bit of pigment.
I also treated myself to my first Pro Longwear Paint Pot, in the pale pearl pink tone of Let's Skate. It's lovely to wear on it's own all over the lid with just a flick of eyeliner and mascara but I'm hoping to play around with more ways of using it. I'm not used to the consistency it's quite dry on the lid and not at all creamy-soft like other eye products I have - but it does last all day so I'm guessing that's the 'longwear' part in action.

I've been lusting after these brushes for months so I finally ordered the Core Collection from Amazon with some birthday money. I've not been using them for long but they are so soft and more impressivley, dense. I hate brushes that allow the product to run down between the hairs so these are great for buffing in liquid foundations etc. I'll get back to you on my favourite uses for each of these in a few weeks.

Finally, I was in Boots the other day and was happy to see a brand new layout for the high street makeup and Sleek products! Although they aren't as cheap as the used to be I'm loving the packaging and they feel much more like high end products. The contour kit is in the shade Light and the highlighter is beautiful, although quite glittery so I have to be careful about wearing this on a sunny day and the bronzer or contour powder is great for my super pale skin. Not too dark or muddy. I still have to go lightly on application but I imagine with a slight tan I can work this into a more intense bronzer.
On the other hand I'm not too impressed with the Eyebrow Kit. This has had rave reviews so I was expecting so much more but I think I have been spoilt by the quality of HD Brows and I'm still need to find the right sort of eyebrow brush. I did like the teeny pair of tweezers that came in the kit though!

I'd love to hear your thoughts if you use any of these items and link me to your product reviews especially if you have tips on ways to use the Paint Pots by MAC.

  6. All real techniques brushes are brilliant and I use nearly all of the core collection every day. Also love sleek and didn't realise they were now in boots! A light hand is advisable with the contour kit in the winter.
