DIY Perspex Clutch with Chain Strap

I've been wanting to get hold of a perspex clear clutch bag for a few weeks now but I can't bring myself to pay designer prices when I can make one myself for under £5! These gorgeous Chanel purses with chain straps were my inspiration...

If you'd like to make your own it's so simple and you only need a few items - here's the tutorial...

You Need
clear cosmetics bag - superdrug £2.99
gold chain or long necklace
small piece of leather or other strong black material
needle and thread

#1 - start by cutting two small rectangles of fabric about 1 inch long
#2 - fold these in half and stitch together at one end to create loops
#3 - you now have two loops that will connect the chain to the cosmetics bag
#4 - they need to be attached at each side, just below the top corners

#5 - hand sew these to the zip firmly, remember once the bag is full it will be heavy and these loops will need to be attached very well. I went over the stitches a few times.

...it's important you can still close the zip. I sewed both loops to the same side of the zip which makes it easy unzip/zip the bag once the chain is attached.

#6 - Clip on your chain!
I used an chunky long necklace that I didn't wear anymore but you can pick up craft chain online.

Fill your new perspex bag with your everyday essentials and carry it on your shoulder or wrap the chain around your hand and carry as a clutch. Click here to see more of my DIY tutorials!

  16. This is such a brilliant idea! I do like the idea of clear clutches! At least you would be selective with what you carry with you and dont have any rubbish floating around in your bag! No one wants to see your tesco recipet and an empty sweet wrapper!
