Statement Necklaces

Over the past year or so I have built up a fair number of 'statement' necklaces. These are big, bold or eye catching pieces that can dress up any outfit. I like to wear mine with plain black dresses or around a shirt collar. Due to their popularity at the moment I thought I'd take you through my collection and how I like to wear them...

Gold Chain - Primark

This one can be worn long or doubled up to make a short choker style necklace. Don't be fooled by it's appearance, it's actually very lightweight and comfortable to wear. I bought this over a year ago but there are many similar styles available at the moment. For example, this one and this one

Wear with: Chunky knit jumpers in soft pastels and an equally chunky watch.

Neon Pink and Gold Spike - Primark

A winning necklace from Primark, this one looks much more expensive than it is. (it's just £4) The neon pink stones are attached with neon green thread, making this necklace reversible. Show off the pink gems or flip it over for just hints of neon thread. I'm looking forward to wearing this one, I only bought it a few days ago so it should still be in stock.

Wear with: A little black dress and a neon colour-pop clutch bag.

Silver Drop Spikes - DIY

I made this one myself using some spikes I bought from eBay and an old chain. You can see my tutorial (bracelet version) here and learn how to make your own! I like wearing this on over the top of high neck shirts but as it's length is adjustable it's easy enough to wear with almost any type of neckline.

Wear with: Peeking out from under shirt collars, silver spikes look great with denim.

Multi Row Gold Chains - Dorothy Perkins

This is a great statement necklace to wear over simple white tees. When you're having a plain tshirt and jeans day throw on a  heavy looking gold chain to style it up. You can find similar here and here.

Wear with: Slogan tee and boyfriend jeans.

Metal Links - Topshop

These necklaces have been very popular. Topshop have released a few varieties of these over the past 6 months or so but this khaki, gold and silver one is my favourite. It wasn't cheap at £18 but I've worn it so many times with plain tees and with dressed. Because there is a mix of gold and silver you can get away with wearing it with any other items of jewellery - but I think it looks perfect just on it's own. Find your own here.

Wear with: Matching colours in khaki and bronze, a jersey midi dress and boots.

Neon Drop Spikes - New Look Limited Edition

I love this one. It was a bit pricey at £14.99 but it's so worth it as I know I'm going to get lots of wear out of it. It really stands out on a plain white shirt, now I just need a neon clutch to go with it!

Wear with: Plain white shirt tucked into a leather skirt.

I store all of my big necklaces laid out flat in a box. This way they don't become tangled and they are protected from getting knocked about. Ironically statement necklaces can sometimes be a bit delicate as they have so many bits and pieces that could fall off or become loose. Which is your favourite?
