DIY Instagram Collage

A great way of remembering perfect memories from 2012 is to frame them of course! I saw this ingenious idea on Louise's blog Sprinkle of Glitter where she made a gigantic framed picture made up of lots of little square instagram photos. I knew I had to have a go at making my own (smaller) version...

What You Need...

All you need is a large frame - finding the right proportions was difficult - in the end I went with a 12x10 frame which fits 20 mini sqaure instagram photos.

Square prints of your instagram photos - I got mine done at Printstagram and chose the mini squares set of 48. They come printed on 2.5" square cards and I'm really pleased with the print quality and each photo has a lovely feel to it as well. They were $12 and shipped to the UK in around 10 days.

Piece of card, scissors and glue.

Start by laying out your photos and arranging them in a collage that is pleasing to the eye. This also helps to determine how many pictures you can fit into your frame etc. Once you have an arrangement you like, take a quick photo on your phone so you don't forget it!

Then you need to pull the standard slip of paper out of your frame. Using a piece of card the exact same size as this sheet will help to make your collage sturdier. Then you can start to stick down your photos. I just used a glue stick - it's the least messy and you can carefully pull the pictures back off if you make a mistake.

I started from the edges and worked my way in. It turned out I needed to leave a slight gap between the squares vertically - but they needed to sit right up against each other horizontally to fit into the frame.

And ta da! Your Instagram Photo Collage is complete. Stand it up on your desk, or hang it on the wall. They also make great gifts. I picked out images taken all throughout the year of 2012 as a little reminder of how great the year was. I still have loads of Prinstagram photos left over which are perfect for sticking into your purse or giving out to friends.

  17. I think Im going to have to start using instagram to document the good things I get up to rather than posting a picture of some nail varnish! This sort of thing would make a great gift for a friend if you have lots of photos together!
