Travel Diaries - Part 2: San Francisco

So after our DC adventure we jumped on a 7 hour flight to San Francisco, California. Arriving to beautiful sunshine and then being whisked down the highway by mini bus really was a great way to be introduced to San Francisco. I was pretty amazed by the landscape and took about a million snaps in the car with my iPhone. For the first three nights we stayed right on the coast at Fisherman's Wharf (hostelling international) and we had such perfect views of the harbour and The Golden Gate Bridge in the distance.

We spent our first day walking along the sea edge, visiting the piers and shops before hopping on a ferry to visit Alcatraz Island (the famous prison on which Al Capone did time) which I'd thoroughly recommend as the boat journey was enjoyable in itself. On our second day we walked in the opposite direction, along a huge beach towards Golden Gate Bridge. The walk took surprisingly longer than we imagined so we were pretty exhausted by the time we reached the bridge but the views from up there were totally worth it.

After the third night we packed up and travelled into the city (hostelling international downtown) to spend time shopping, eating and visiting China and Japan town! What you may not expect from San Francisco is it's enormous hills. On our very last day in America we went in search of Grace Cathedral - and would you know, it's at the top of a bloody gigantic hill where at one point I'm sure we were walking a vertical slope.
Starbucks to the rescue! I loved San Francisco even more than I thought I would and wouldn't hesitate to visit again in the future.
