Travel Diaries - Part 1: Washington DC

I've tried to cut down on the photos in this blog post as I've taken literally thousands of images during my time in the States. I know a few of you are keen to see what I've been up to for the past fortnight and keeping things simple this is it.

I'd highly recommend visiting Washington DC - home of the Obamas and extreme weather. We visited in late August to early September and it was hot. Temperatures of up to and above 30oC and sunny humid weather.
I also came last year in May and the weather was pretty much the same just not as humid. Through the months of June and July I think the city would be too warm for me! Plus the tourist attractions are much quieter in September.

As you can see from my pictures we mainly did lots of sightseeing on foot which is the best way of getting around the city. But for further out trips to Washington Zoo, Arlington or Georgetown you can take the metro and/or bus. My favourite days included our trip to see the Washington Nationals play baseball, kayaking down River Potomac visiting the Zoo and shopping in Georgetown.

We stayed with Meghann my big sister in her apartment near Dupont Circle, which is a lovely area to be in. (see photo of me on fountain in Dupont Circle) DC is five hours behind the UK so it didn't take us too long to catch up and contacting home was easy. We stayed here for a week until we flew on to California. But I'll save that for another post!
