JolieBox September

If you've not heard of the JolieBox - then where have you been!? Admittedly, although I had heard of and seen blog reviews of the JolieBox I had no prior knowledge about the company. JolieBox was founded in 2011 in Paris but quickly offered their boxes to beauty addicts in the UK and Spain. The company has recently been acquired by Birchbox, who we all know to be the people behind America's leading beauty box. They are priced at £10 per month with £2.95 p&p. So with all this in mind I was very excited to be offered the chance of receiving a JolieBox to try out for myself! (As I'm sure you're all aware I often review GlossyBox boxes so I can't help but make small comparisons in this review.)

First impressions? What a beautifully designed box. It's slightly smaller than a GlossyBox but is neat, sturdy  and colourful. I like that the products are kept inside a bag. Some people have voiced their dislike about the bag but I actually think it's just as exciting to look inside as to rifle through tissue paper. Plus you now have a cute little bag for storing things in. Of course, it's not about the box but what's inside that counts...

Balmi Lip Balm, I Love...Face Mask, Redken Align 12, Twistband Hair Ties, Dr Bragi Bio Marine Exfoliant

Balmi Lip Balm - full size

As soon as I spotted this I thought of the EOS lipbalms. It's pretty identical apart from I kinda like this Balmi one a little bit more! It's so smooth and moisturising and glides on to the lips whereas I find the EOS lipbalms can be a little stiff/dry. Plus this one comes in a refreshing mint flavour which is more like a chocolate mint taste than a toothpaste one. Thankfully. I will be using this loads in the Winter to keep chapped lips at bay - the SPF 15 means you're also protecting your lips from UVA rays and I really like the little keyring attachment, so handy. A star product!

I LOVE... Face Mask in Mango - full size

Face masks are a lovely treat that I never seem to purchase off my own back. So I'm always pleased to receive them in beauty boxes, or in magazines. I've not tried this one out yet but the idea that it's filled with fruity goodness appeals to me and it's ideal for all skin types (yey!)

Redken - Align 12 Straightening Lotion

I don't actually straighten my hair so this one's not for me. I'm going to give it away to a friend who prefers to straighten her hair often. It's nice to see JolieBox including some 'best sellers' though, I'm always interested in trying out coveted products to see if they are worth the hype.

TwistBand - full size

It's exciting to sometimes receive a non-beauty product in a beauty box. Especially when it's an item I've never tried before. These twistbands are designed to keep your hair up and out of the way but without causing bumps or kinks afterwards. I tested one out the other night keeping it in my hair ALL night and success - it stayed in, kept my hair up and secure and did not leave weird lumps or bumps in my hair. A single twistband costs $2.00 or you can buy a pack of 3 for $5.00. They also look pretty cool worn on your wrist with other bracelets, and then you always have one to hand.

Dr Bragi Bio Marine Exfoliant

I'm interested to try these samples. I know some people are drawn to products covered in medical or scientific jargon and seeing the 'Dr' may mean in your head this product is used by professionals on their clients but to be honest, all this science-y stuff scares me. I don't want to be a doctor's patient when it comes to my skincare! Even so I realise it is all just branding nonsense and I will give these exfoliant samples a go next time I'm washing my face. 'Cos that's all it is - it's just washing your face.

Overall thoughts? I'm impressed with my first JolieBox. I was also pleased to see a JolieMag (their own mini magazine) included in the box. There's a good mixture in the September box, two products for your hair and three for your face. I'd be happy to recommend JolieBox to any beauty junkie who was looking for a beauty box to subscribe to, or to anyone looking for a decent present.
